Alaskan Cities – 3 Great Places to See on Your Alaska Vacation

There are many reasons to visit Alaska, and a great way to do so is by visiting some of the state’s largest cities. These destinations offer an array of things to do for a great family vacation, and are also great for vacation rentals. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your time in the state. Read on for more information! Also, be sure to take advantage of the state’s incredible natural beauty.

Ketchikan: This city was once used by the Tlingit tribe before European settlement. Then in the 1800s, it was a summer fishing camp. After the Russians established contact, they built Fort St. Nicholas, the first European settlement in Alaska. During the Battle of Kenai, over 100 people died in the attack. Shortly afterward, smallpox devastated the native population of the area.

Bethel: This city is located near the coast and has a subarctic climate. It has only three reported violent crimes and sixteen nonviolent crimes. It is a great place for outdoor activities, and it hosts a bald eagle festival. But before you head to Bethel, make sure to check the weather in the area before you decide to visit. If you’re planning to visit one of these cities, remember to pack your winter coat!

Sitka: In the early 1800s, Sitka was established by the Russians. They began trading with Natives in the area, and in 1799, they built a fort along the Peril Strait to force an embargo on trade. After that, Sitka was the center of Russian Orthodox life in the region, despite the fact that it was also a heavy Lutheran city. It also attracted many Swedes and Finns to work for the Russian-American Company. During this time, fishing, whaling, and fur trading were major industries, and Sitka was the largest city in the state for these.
